A richly deserved win for the lads in the U14 Blessington Cup Semi-Final against Shamrock Rovers, a game they dominated from start to finish. Playing the first half against a very stiff wind, Beechwood dominated for long periods but still found themselves going in a goal down at half time after failing to clear a speculative long ball; Rovers went ahead against the run of play. Beechwood resumed where they left off in the 2nd period, dominating possession and creating all the chances. With about 15 mins left, Ronan Doyle who worked hard all day ghosted in at the back post after some excellent Beechwood build up play to level things up, and Beechwood really piled on the pressure in pursuit of the winner. A series of corners ratcheted up the heat on Rovers, and when Sean Monahan delivered yet another excellent delivery from a corner, Sam Small was on hand to turn the ball in after a bit of a scramble. 2-1 the final score. Powerhouse performance from Harry McEvoy in midfield, supported by his partner in crime the excellent James Barr, with Hugh Torfeldt leading the line all day and causing all sorts of bother for Rovers strong centre half Nikita. Special call out for Rory Tobin who took on the responsibility of netminder in the absence of our regular keeper Ross. Well done lads, cup final for the 5th year running, can you go on now and make it 5 wins in 5 years !
Playing the semi-final of the Pat White Cup against Esker Celtic, the team perhaps didn't give one of our best performances by any means - but we got the all import win. It was a very sluggish start in the first half with the exception of Blakey and Hugh who looked dangerous from the off. Nevertheless, these two put us 2-0 up before the break, and it would have been three up but for a spectacular reflex save by the opposing keeper to deny another for Hugh. In fairness to Beechwood, the second half saw the team step it up a gear and they started to play that bit better, securing another two goals before giving away a free kick shortly before full time, which allowed Esker to grab a consolation. Final score 4-1. And many congratulations to all the team.
All at BFC would like to congratulate our U14 players Harry McEvoy and Sean Monahan on their success in the Leinster Schools 1st year Cup Final, on 26 March, playing for St Benildus College in a 3-2 vistory over Collaiste Choilm of Tullamore. Very well done lads.

U14 Prem: Cherry Orchard 0-1 Beechwood.
First half was a scrappy affair with the home team coming closest to scoring drawing a couple of excellent saves from Jude in the Beechwood goal. Second half Beechwood really started to boss the game. Centre halves Harry Lynch and Sean Monahan snuffing out anything the Orchard had to offer up front, and with the centre midfield being bossed by Harry McEvoy and the returning James Barr, Beechwood began to look the more likely. Hugh Torfeldt was always dangerous, but it was the in form goalscorer Jake Hickey that broke the deadlock, when he was first to a breaking ball, and his shot looped high into the Orchard net. After a few early season reverses that saw the season get off to an uncharacteristically shaky start, the Beechwood lads have really hit form now, and showing the quality that has brought them 5 trophys in the last 3 seasons. Well done lads.
