With the SDFL season drawing to a close, here are a couple of important dates to block in your diaries:
Thursday 4th June - a Club social evening in Birchalls for all coaches and parents, 8.30pm onwards. Just an informal gathering. So get the babysitter lined up if needed - and we'll see you there!
Saturday 6th June - a Champions League Blitz in Royal Hospital for U11s and younger. Steve Masterson is organising this and promises a show even better than the Winter Blitz back at the end of the Xmas hols! Format as follows:
• U7 & U8 Competition – register 9.30am for finish 12noon
• U9, U10 & U11 Competition – register 10am for finish 1pm
Entry €5 to include shirt and water.
Any further sponsorship / contributions are welcome – do have a think if you or your business can help - and talk to Steve.
MIMA Café will be on hand to supply their fabulous Coffee / Tea / Hot Chocolate and snacks: please support them on the day.
Here's hoping to see everybody at both events!
Only two competitive games today, with the heavy rain on Friday making a couple of away pitches not playable and then one opposing club unable to field a team. I did hear that the U10Bs played a friendly against the U11Bs - but no report of whether any "butt was kicked" or whether honours were shared! A good win for the U11As covered below, with a draw for the U12Bs also noted. For the details, read on.
Collinstown 1-0 Beechwood. In a repeat of last week's cup final in this tournament which has been added late season to the schedule, Collinstown ran out deserving winners with a goal from Thomas Shiels Maher. The Beechwood lads unsurprisingly failed to match the intensity of last week's cup final win, and Collinstown were much the sharper from the off, and could have put the game to bed before half time. It was late in the 2nd period before Beechwood decided there was a game to be won, and had a late goal chalked off for offside, but overall, Collinstown deserved their win.
